About Amp5

Amp5 is a complete charging system that, unlike regular charging boxes, doesn’t require additional installation materials or external hardware for load balancing, internet connectivity, emergency stop, or residual current protection. The advantage of Amp5 lies in its integrated components, each optimized and tested to work seamlessly together.

A holistic system architecture means that the design and structure of the system are treated as an integrated whole, with centralized control. All components and processes are coordinated to maximize functionality, user experience, and sustainability.

OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is a communication standard between charging points and centralized charging services. Amp5 supports both OCPP 1.6J and the latest 2.0.1 without relying on proxy services, ensuring the system isn’t tied to any specific software or charging operator. OCPP 2.1 also includes improved support for Plug & Charge (ISO15118-20), Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), data security, smart charging, diagnostics, and monitoring.

Connectivity is essential for charging services and load balancing. Amp5 ensures reliability with redundant connections via LAN and 4G, along with dual LAN cables for each charging point. SIM cards for 4G and internet connectivity are provided by the property owner or charge point operator.

Amp5 features built-in software that continuously monitors and performs self-checks to detect operational issues. If needed, it can remotely reset components like the residual current device (RCD), reducing the need for physical service visits. All error codes are documented and can be viewed locally or sent to a chosen cloud service via OCPP. Additionally, Amp5 supports firmware over-the-air updates (FOTA), enabling remote updates for software and drivers without interrupting active charging sessions.

Yes, Amp5 provides both local and internet-based dynamic load balancing (DLM) to optimize power consumption and prevent overloading the building’s main fuse, minimizing the risk of interruptions and damage.

Amp5 will start shipping in March 2025.

Safety, Environment, and Sustainability

Amp5 adheres to rigorous safety standards, including EN 61851-1 and EN-IEC 60947-2 Annex B, ensuring safe operation and protection against electrical faults. The system includes built-in Type B RCDs that automatically cut power in case of hazardous fault currents exceeding 30/6 mA (AC/DC). Centralized surge protection safeguards against lightning and overvoltage, meeting legal requirements for public charging stations. Additionally, remote shutdown of the main breaker during emergencies, such as fires, enhances user safety.

Amp5 is made using Hydro Circal, containing at least 75% recycled aluminum with a low carbon footprint. All plastic components are produced in Sweden by Preformance in Tenhult. The goal is to achieve a 90% recycling rate for all materials by 2026.

Amp5 features a centralized system architecture where advanced electronic components are protected in an IP44-rated aluminum enclosure.

Amp5 supports remote diagnostics and Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates. Error codes can be accessed and resolved locally or remotely.

Amp5 is manufactured in Lund, Sweden, by NOTE, a publicly traded, leading Nordic manufacturing partner. Aluminum profiles are made from Hydro Circal, and all plastic components are produced by Preformance in Tenhult, Sweden.

The system is rated IP44 for dust and water protection and IK10 for impact resistance.

Amp5 operates in temperatures ranging from -30°C to +45°C.

Amp5 can be installed indoors or outdoors, wall-mounted or ground-mounted, and is adapted to European parking standards with widths of 2.3–3.3 meters.

Installation

The system can be installed indoors or outdoors, wall-mounted or ground-mounted. Minimal digging is required for ground mounting, thanks to compatibility with ground screws or stakes.

Our goal is to halve the installation time compared to traditional charging stations.

Amp5 features an intuitive interface for local and centralized configuration. It supports automatic socket addressing and straightforward load balancing on-site without requiring involvement from the charging service provider.

Amp5 includes its own hotspot for configuration in areas with poor mobile coverage and can be commissioned via its internal interface. Automatic self-configuration helps eliminate installation errors.

All modules are easily replaceable with plug-and-play functionality, enabling quick service and minimal downtime.

Firmware updates are performed via FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air), eliminating the need for on-site updates. FOTA is conducted without interrupting active charging sessions.

User Interaction

Amp5 supports the following interactions:

  • QR code (for mobile apps)
  • RFID tags
  • Electronic mobile tags (NFC)
  • External payment terminals
  • Plug & Charge (for vehicles supporting ISO15118).

Payments can be made via card, Apple Pay, Swish, or other methods provided by the charging operator.

Yes, energy usage can be viewed through the mobile app or on the charging point display.

Functionality and Future-Proofing

V2G enables energy transfer from the vehicle back to the grid, helping to balance grid demand.

Yes, Amp5 is fully modular and can be easily scaled to add more charging points.

Smart charging optimizes energy use, such as adapting to electricity prices or available capacity. Amp5 supports both local dynamic load balancing and internet-based load balancing. Optimization for electricity prices depends on choosing a charging service that supports this.
